EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS
Toronto, ON
On Tuesday, April 14, 2025, there was a fabulous launch of the Kindred Spirits Exhibition in the Robertson Davies Library at Massey College. This proved to be a very popular event. Due to space limitations, those who wanted to attend the launch needed to secure a ticket in advance through the library’s web portal. Seventy-five tickets were made available and sold out in less than 48 hours. Public interest in Maud continues to be popular!

Doors opened at 5:30, and the event started at 6pm. Andreea Marin, Librarian at Massey, welcomed all and introduced the keynote speaker, Melanie J. Fishbane, author of Maud: A Novel Inspired by the Life of L.M. Montgomery. Melanie spoke about her first experience reading Anne of Green Gables and how Maud influenced her aspirations to become a writer. Next, Barb Helander spoke, thanking all who had a part to play in the evolution of the Kindred Spirits Exhibition. She was delighted to introduce the Kindred Spirits judges who attended the evening’s event: Kate Macdonald Butler, L.M. Montgomery’s granddaughter; Don Taylor, Toronto bookbinder; and Liz Menard, Toronto printmaker and book artist. Don Taylor also spoke, thoroughly entertaining the audience with his rationale for the work he prepared for the Kindred Spirits Exhibition… “Anne’s Carpet Bag.”
Emily Loker also talked about the two gorgeous pieces she had created for the exhibition. There were audible “oohs and aahs” as she described the exquisite features of her books – Emily of New Moon and The Story Girl! Barb closed the program and invited all to view the exhibit in the lower library, and then to move to the upstairs lounge where there was coffee, tea, a wonderful assortment of crackers and cheeses, plus yummy chocolate chip cookies. It was a magical evening! The Kindred Spirits exhibit will be open to the public at Massey College from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, from April 15, 2025, to May 15, 2025.
